Bigger Brooder for the Chicks

Chicks grow SO FAST!

The chicks were born on May 5, 2021. To see pics of when they first arrived click here. They are now 9 days old and have already outgrown their first brooder!

I knew that the first brooder box would not last long, but I thought it would last longer than 9 days. Here is a link to the post on that brooder https://titanranch.ca/easy-diy-chicken-brooder-box/

Why not start them in the larger brooder in the first place?

They needed the smaller space at first for several reasons:

  • for their feelings of security
  • to keep in the heat
  • to make sure they can find food and water

New Bigger Brooder

Tonight I moved them to a new brooder – improvised from a child’s play pen. They now have room for a small roost, and are trying to fly.

Look at the Feathers

Their feathers are coming in, especially on their wings. Once these birds are fully feathered, they will move into the big chicken coop, outside.
