From Cute and Cuddly to Dirty Stinky Beast

Every autumn, the goats get ready for breeding season. The cover themselves in the smell the lady goats like… Urine! They pee all over their face and front legs. Bucks become Dirty Stinky Beasts in Rut!

The Change seemed to happen overnight! We were beginning to wonder if our goats were even going to get stinky.

As soon as Player was put in with the mature does, all the Bucklings turned into dirty stinky Beasts.

Poor Loki

Loki is all alone, with no ladies to impregnate during this breeding season. Player is in with the ladies, doing his job. And, Leo has moved on to a new farm with his own herd of ladies.

Loki is in an enclosure all by himself. We even have two layers of fence separating him from his twin sister and the other doeling. His Sister, Lily, is an unrepentant flirt. She stands by the fence and wags her tail at him – driving him wild with lust. We don’t want the doelings bred until next year.

Still wants Cuddles

Loki still wants to be loved and cuddled too! But, It is really hard to get close to him when his is such a Dirty Stinky Beast in Rut.

It was hard to take photos of him. As soon as he saw me, he ran up to me and was too close for a photo. He just wanted cuddles and scratches.

Player stinks too

Because of Player’s colouring, you can’t see how dirty he is. But you can definitely smell him if you get close. If you touch one of the rutting bucks, the smell will stay on your hands for ages.

Player will be back in a few weeks to keep Loki company. After our three mature does have been bred.

Next year, we will have 5 does to breed. (unless I go shopping and buy more…) I think we will have to let Loki have one of them. Bat Chick could be mated to Loki. The others are too closely related to him.
