Fall 2023 Update

Jekyll - our new buck

It is almost time to put the bucks and does together for breeding season. It is time for a farm update for fall 2023.

Sales Update

Sales have been a bit slow this year. Everyone blames the drought in southern Alberta this summer and a resultant shortage of hay.

So far we have sold 2 bucklings and a buck. We have 3 more bucklings and 3 doelings still to sell.

See the Goats for sale page for info on the goats that are still available.

New Buck

Since sales are slow, I probably shouldn’t have purchased any new goats, but, I couldn’t resist!

Welcome to LWC JEKYLL.

He is such a big handsome buck, I had to add him to our breeding program. Look for his kids in spring 2024.

Breeding Matches.

Mocha and Mushu are Player’s kids, so they will definitely be put in with Jekyll. I think one of the mature does should also be put with Jekyll – Which one do you suggest?

They breeders will be put together on Dec 1. Juniper is in heat now, so she will have to wait till her next cycle. She has been yelling at Player all day.

Fall 2023 Update for Chickens

We have lots of chickens in the coop. When the youngest batch of chicks mature, we will choose which roosters will stay. There are a couple of really nice looking roosters, but they have huge combs that are not ideal for our climate.

As the chickens that were hatched this spring mature, we are getting lots of different shades of blue and green eggs.

Horse Update

The horses are getting fuzzy in preparation for winter. The look happy.

They are not being ridden very much. I am recovering well from my shoulder replacement Surgery and Melissa ended up needing surgery for a badly broken collarbone.

They will be ridden a bit by our Wwoofers, and Melissa and I will resume riding in the spring.
