Fetal Development of Goats

Conception

Day 1 – two cells

Day 1.5 – 8 cells – Morula Stage

Day 3-4 – Enters Uterus

Day 6-7 Blastula Stage

Embryo

Day 12 – Attaches to the wall of the Uterus

Day 20 – Heart begins to beat

Day 28-35 – Limb buds become visible

Day 35-42 – Differentiation of mouth, digits and dew claws

Fetus

Day 42 – The Fetus is now 37.5 mm (1.5 inches) long. The major tissue, organ and systems are defined.

Day 42-49 – Mammary buds or empty scrotal sac appear

Day 49-56 – Ear canal opens

Day 56-63 – Nostrils open

Day 60 – Fetus is now approximately 100mm (4 inches) long. They eyes, eyelids and nostrils are identifiable

Day 77-84 – Fetus is now approximately 250 mm (10 inches) long. After this point, fetal size is varies greatly, some breeds get much larger than others.

Day 98-105 – The first teeth erupt and hair grows around the eyes and muzzle.

Day 119 – 126 – Hair covers the entire body

Day 141 – the fetus is viable

Parturition/Kidding

Day 145 to 152 – your kid is born!
