Keeping Up with 11 Kids

Adorable Goat Kids

I am having so much fun with this year’s crop of goat babies. They are so fun and mischievous. It isn’t easy keeping up with 11 kids.

At bed time, I have to get all 11 kids, as well as their mothers, into the goat shelter for lock up. One kid will avoid the door and run behind the shelter, and while trying to get him inside, two more will come out to see what is going on!

Creep Feed

Now that they are starting so eat some food in addition to their mothers milk, I have set up a creep feed station. It is a “kids only” area where they can play and eat as much grower feed as they want. In the main area, the moms eat all the grain pretty quickly.

The momma’s cant fit between the bars on the wooden section, while the kids enjoy squeezing in and out.

Bottle Baby

Oreo, the black and white doeling, is my first bottle baby, After the Kidding Chaos, none of the moms claimed her or would let her nurse. She drinks regular cow’s milk from a baby bottle, But it hasn’t slowed her down one bit.

Oreo is currently drinking a full 10 oz human baby bottle, 4 times a day. Soon I will have to get her to take her milk from a bigger bottle that is made for livestock – but she prefers the NUK nipple.

As soon as she sees me coming, she runs to the gate for her bottle. She wolfs it down in about 45 seconds!

Growing fast

They all seem to be healthy, happy, and growing fast. Next week we will weigh them all to record their 30 day weights. Most of them have more than doubled their birth weights
