Made it thru the Polar Vortex…

I grew up on the coast – Vancouver, BC, Canada. The weather on the coast is always “moderate”, so I had never experienced a cold winter… Until now. I can now say that I survived a polar vortex. It brought Extreme cold and a pleasant surprise.

SO COLD

The last week or so has been SO COLD! Alberta experienced a Polar Vortex and had temperatures as low as -35 C, and even colder if you factor in the wind chill. I now know what it feels like to be outside in the North… and I only plan to do it for short periods if at all possible!

Needless to say, I have not been doing much work outdoors! I have not been able to do any work on the Chicken Coop or Goat house. Even my walking group postponed their outings. You really cannot stay outside very long during the extreme cold, no matter how prepared you are for it.

Clothing storage

I did get stuff done, although it was all indoor projects. My biggest accomplishment for the week was putting together my wall of IKEA Pax Cabinets. I still have a few finishing touches to do, and I need to decorate the open shelves. All in all, I am pretty proud of myself. I had some help from my kids for the few steps that definitely need two people, but otherwise I did it all myself.

Wall of Pax Wardrobes

It sure feels good to finally unpack! My stuff has been stored in a shipping container since we sold our house in BC – Back in August of 2020. My next big unpacking project will be the basement craft room.

Aurora Borealis

The other highlight of the week was seeing the Aurora Borealis. This is not a great photo, but it was taken from my front porch with my iPhone. I was standing out there in the brutal cold, in my pajamas, totally mesmerized.

I saw the Aurora Borealis for the first time!

Warmer weather coming

The weather is warming up now. Today’s temperature was in the negative teens. We should get above freezing at some point this coming week. That means I get to work on my outdoor projects again!
