Our First Goats

Look at that smile :)

We bought Two New Zealand Kiko Does (almost)

I know… I am not ready for goats yet! Believe me, I heard it. I don’t have fences or a shelter… But… I have a shelter ordered, as well as some freestanding fence panels. I will be ready soon…

Because the ground is frozen solid, we can’t get fence posts into the ground until May… But these panels will do the trick for us, and we can reuse them later for lots of temporary fencing needs, such as a quarantine pen, grazing along the fence line, etc.

Portable Fence Panels
7′ wide and 54″ tall. They hook together and make a strong fence.

BUT…

But, the does are pregnant, and by the time I will be ready, they will be too far along to transport. Moving is very stressful for goats, and could result in a miscarriage.

BUT, thanks to creative thinking by Mallory Kaiser of The Goat Patch, we found way to make it work. I have put down a deposit, and after the babies are born in April, I can pick everyone up. Mallory and Shaun will look after my Does for me and we will all hope for a successful and easy kidding in April.

Meet J27 and J28. They were born in April 2019 and these are their first Pregnancies. We need your help to think of new names for them – ideally starting with “J”. I think one of them will be JOLENE.

And eventually we will need baby names – Starting with “L”

Don’t you just love their smiles!!! They are full sisters (they were triplets, but Mallory is keeping their other sister) I think J28 is a bit whiter, and slightly larger. I might have fun telling them apart.

They are registered New Zealand Kikos and I can’t wait to bring them home!
