The natural diet of goats includes lots of leaves, bark, and branches. Unfortunately, it is hard to keep live trees in their pasture as they will eat all the bark off and kill the tree. So I provide branches for them to eat.
Luckily we have lots of trees that are growing too close to our fence lines that need to be cut down. Every morning, after feeding and cleaning up after the animals, I cut trees.
Then I deliver the trees to the waiting goats!
After the trees lose their leaves in Autumn, I supplement the goats diet with Fodder that I grow in our basement. https://titanranch.ca/growing-fodder/
Goats also Love to Climb
We recently picked up a couple of big spools to add to our goat play area. They really love climbing on the spools. We added shingles to the top of the spool to cover the holes, and to provide a rough surface to help wear their hoofs.
Being on grass all the time means we have to trim their hoofs. If they were climbing rocks all the time they would need very little maintenance. But… no rocks here.
