New Chicks

This was the first chick to hatch. I love its markings

We have 9 newly hatched chicks on the farm. There is nothing cuter than new chicks.

Hatching

We have an incubator in the dining room. I got to watch several of the new chicks hatch.

Look how cute they are

These chicks are a barnyard mix. Last year’s rooster was an Orpington, so there is lots of Orpington in the mix. We also have Whiting True Blue and Whiting True Green hens and roosters, so many of these chicks will produce eggs in various shades of green. We will also have a few blue layers.

Lets see some more cuteness…

They are so soft and fluffy. I love how each of the chicks has different colouring.

In a few weeks they will be big enough to join the others in the chicken coop, and by next fall the hens will be laying eggs for us.

Click Here to see some of last years chicks when they moved to the big coop. There is nothing cuter than new chicks, but they hit an ugly faze as teenagers.

Brooding chicks

We use a few different brooders for our chicks. These ones are in a foldable pet play pen. We have also used a baby play pen!

We also use a Rubbermaid container with a modified lid.

Next batch of Cute New chicks

There is another batch of eggs in the incubator, they will be hatching in a couple of weeks. The eggs spend 21 days in the incubator before they hatch.
