Sunday was a long day…
We drove all day Sunday… We picked up our Goats from The Goat Patch, as well as a few other goats. The hitchhiker goats needed a ride to our area. The drive was over 5 hours each way, pulling a horse trailer. I’m so glad Melissa was doing the driving!
We picked up our two does, and their 4 babies. We also transported 5 does, and two bucks for other people.

We didn’t realize that we would be transporting bucks until a couple of days before we left. Some quick rearranging of the fence panels gave us a temporary buck paddock. We emptied out the tack room area of the horse trailer to contain the bucks on the trip.
Manhandling bucks
You might wonder how we get the goats on and off the trailer… With the does, we tried to make a rudimentary shoot. They are really good at getting on and off the trailer, as long as they are all doing it at the same time. They definitely like to stay as a herd.
For the bucks, the horns make great handles. We just held on tight and manhandled them into the trailer! The last thing we need is to have a buck loose on our 80 acres – especially when it belongs to someone else!

They all survived the drive and were happy to nibble on grass as soon as they got here.

The bunk beds were a hit
The does all spent the night in our goat house, while the bucks slept in the horse trailer. We don’t want any unsanctioned hanky-panky!

The kids couldn’t jump up onto the bunk beds yet, so the momma’s cuddled them in the corners.
New homes for four of the goats
We delivered 3 does and one of the bucks to their new owner today. We enjoyed a lovely tour of the goats and quarter horses at their farm.
Our guests
The black buck and two does will be staying with us for a few days, before heading to their new owner in Ontario.
Getting to know you
I’ll be spending the next couple of weeks relaxing in the goat pen, letting them get used to me. I’ll take a chair and a book to read – and offer treats if they are brave enough to come close.
